Emotional Eruption

Adapted from a real anecdote shared in the book I Love You, But I’m Not In Love With You” by Andrew G. Marshall

They were trying to do “more couple things,” so she suggested a painting class. He groaned but agreed. Halfway through, the instructor walked by and complimented their work: “That’s great collaboration!”

They burst out laughing. He had just painted a bright red streak over the mountain she’d spent 20 minutes shading.

“We’re not collaborating,” she said. “We’re surviving art class.”

By the end, their painting looked like a volcano had exploded in a forest. But they hung it in the laundry room anyway.

“We call it ‘Emotional Eruption,’” he said.

“And it’s still more productive than our first few therapy sessions,” she added.
