Finding the Reset Button

It really happened…

She was explaining a difficult moment from her day while they stood in the kitchen, but he was half-listening, trying to microwave leftover pizza and figure out why the clock was blinking.

“Are you even hearing me?” she asked.

“Of course,” he said confidently. “You said something about... the thing... with that person.”

She just stared.

He paused. Then smiled. “Okay, I missed it. But I bet it’s a good story, and I want to hear it. Start again. I’ll even turn off the microwave.”

She rolled her eyes, but hit reset on the story. This time he listened. The pizza waited.
